QAinAL_Round Table discussion was held in Tirana, Albania on 23 – 24 March, 2017

Within the framework of Erasmus+ Project “Strategic Support on Strengthening in the Quality Assurance Structures at the Private Higher Education Institutions in Albania” a Round Table discussion was held on 23-24 March 2017 in Tirana, Albania.

The participants were welcomed by the Rector of University Marin Barleti, Prof. Dr. Marenglen Spiro who also gave a welcoming speech, and Prof. Dr. Peter Eckl who also delivered an opening speech.

The aim of the Round Table was to discuss with all partner Private Higher Education Institution and external stakeholders the current situation related to the internal and external quality assurance, challenges and perspectives in higher education sector in Albania.

The target group for the first day were the external stakeholders and on the second day were Private Higher Education Institutions in Albania. Moreover during these two days, seven presentations were delivered and five discussion sessions were held. The presentations held were on the following topics:

  • The reform of Italian University: Planning and control – University of Genova, Italy
  • The Reform of Italian University: Governance, Management and Quality Assurance – University of Genova, Italy
  • External Evaluation Process at POLIS University – POLIS University
  • Student body to support and enhance the QA processes – University of New York in Tirana
  • External evaluation process Best practices – UET – European University in Tirana
  • External Evaluation Process Best Practices – UMB – University Marin Barleti in tirana
  • Presentation by Public Accreditation Agency for Higher Education of Albania


Furthermore the discussion sessions were on the following topics:

  • The importance and challenges of quality assurance and the Accreditation process of the Institutions of Higher Education in Albania
  • The increasing role of students in shaping the overall higher education system
  • The role and challenges of students’ union to support and enhance the internal quality assurance processes
  • Challenges and perspectives of PHEI in Albania
  • Challenges and problems faces as a result of the external evaluation process

Additionally, on this event, participants from the EU countries were from the University Paris Lodron of Salzburg, University of Genova and University Politehnica of Bucharest. As for the participants from Albania they were representatives from Ministry of Education and Sport of Albania, Public Accreditation Agency for Higher Education of Albania, Marin Barleti University, Epoka University, European University in Tirana, University New York in Tirana and Polis University. Also from Kosova were representatives of WUS Kosova.
